You will be leading an investigation to identify and arrest a vandal in Two Tales Two Cities of Starfield.
To initiate the “Two Tales, Two Cities” quest in Starfield, you are tasked with investigating a recent spate of vandalism. This mission will test your detective skills as you work to apprehend the responsible party. Your objectives include interviewing witnesses, gathering evidence, and discerning the truth from deception.
To assist you in successfully completing this quest, we have prepared a step-by-step guide. Let’s begin.
How to unlock the Two Tales, Two Cities mission
“Two Tales, Two Cities” unfolds in the bustling city of New Atlantis on the planet Jemison within the Starfield universe. To gain access to this side mission, you must first successfully complete the “Search and Seizure” quest.
Once you’re prepared to begin, make your way to the UC Security Office and engage in a conversation with Sergeant Yumi. During this interaction, he will brief you about the recent acts of vandalism that demand a thorough investigation, including the identification of the perpetrator.
How to complete Two Tales, Two Cities in Starfield
“Two Tales, Two Cities” is a straightforward side mission within the Starfield universe. In this quest, you’ll traverse from one character to another, engaging in conversations to accumulate information about the individual behind the recent acts of vandalism. The sequence of events for this side mission unfolds as follows:
Investigate the Embassy District crime
Follow your objective marker to the Tram Station in the Embassy District to investigate vandalism done to the Tram and a wall. You need to speak with witnesses here to get more information.
Speak with Officer Markkanen
Find Officer Markkanen who will be interviewing a witness inside the area of the crime scene. Report to her, and she’ll summarize the whole case and tell you about the first witness, who is a Functionary at MAST.
You will discover that the statements of the present witness and the Functionary are in direct opposition, requiring you to employ your detective abilities to discern the true culprit.
Extend your assistance to Markkanen, and she will request your presence for an interview with Functionary Gershon.
Speak with Functionary Gershon
Accompany Officer Markkanen to Functionary Gershon’s office for the interview. Follow the blue objective marker leading to the Cabinet Chambers.
Gershon’s reception will be less than welcoming. He will be quite reticent and uncooperative when it comes to discussing the matter, offering little assistance to your investigation.
In the absence of Gershon’s willingness to answer your questions, he will reluctantly permit you to inspect his computer for a written statement of the incident. This might seem like a reasonable course of action given Gershon’s uncooperative attitude, but you will soon stumble upon something quite intriguing on his computer.
Based on the information found on the computer, Functionary Gershon falsely accuses Tahir Vala of being the vandal responsible for the recent incidents. However, this is not accurate. Investigate the other file on his computer, titled “A Tale of Two Cities.”
Upon further examination, it becomes apparent that Gershon is an avid fan of the classic novel “A Tale of Two Cities” and harbors a desire for UC Security to apprehend (and even harm) all the less fortunate individuals living in The Well.
Find more evidence
Greshon is now the primary suspect, but you require more evidence to proceed with an arrest. On the top of the storage cabinet, to the right of the computer, you’ll find a physical copy of “A Tale of Two Cities.” Collect it as evidence.
Furthermore, inspect the trash can located on the left side of the table, where you’ll discover a Space Trucker Flannel. Some witness reports have indicated that the vandal was wearing a Trucker Flannel. Gathering both pieces of evidence is strongly recommended to save time; otherwise, you’ll need to revisit this location later.
Present your evidence to Officer Markkanen
The final step in completing “Two Tales, Two Cities” is to present all the evidence to Officer Markkanen in Starfield. Your approach will vary depending on the amount of evidence you’ve collected and your suspicion of the culprit.
Since you’ve gathered sufficient evidence against Gershon, select “I’ve got proof,” and both of you will go to Sergeant Yumi to provide an update on the investigation.
Avoid selecting the first option to arrest Tahir Vala, as he is innocent, and doing so may potentially lock you out of his side missions, such as “The Kindness of Strangers.”
Persuade Sergeant Yumi to arrest Gershon
Even with sufficient evidence, you’ll need to persuade Sergeant Yumi to arrest Functionary Gershon.
If you’ve found both the “Tale of Two Cities” book and the Flannel Shirt, you’ll have a better chance of passing the Persuasion Checks. However, a high Persuasion Skill in Starfield will still be crucial to convince Sergeant Yumi.
In case your persuasion checks fail, speak with Sergeant Yumi again, and mention the two pieces of evidence: the shirt and the book. If you didn’t collect them initially, return to Gershon to obtain them.
Starfield – Two Tales, Two Cities bugs and fixes
Currently, there is a bug that may prevent mission progression if you fail to persuade Sergeant Yumi regarding Gershon being the vandal.
Even if you possess evidence from Gershon’s computer and room, the mission can become stuck without the option to “gather more evidence.”
To resolve this bug, ensure that you collect both the Flannel Shirt and the “Tale of Two Cities” book during your initial attempt.
Starfield – Two Tales, Two Cities mission rewards
Once Gershon is arrested, you will receive the following rewards:
- EXP: 200
- Credits: 6200
