“Grunt Work” marks your inaugural faction mission as a newly inducted UC Vanguard provisional member in Starfield.
Under the command of Commander Taula, your mission is to investigate a settlement and ensure its well-being. However, the situation takes a turn for the worse as you discover a rampant Terrormorph causing havoc.
How to unlock the Grunt Work mission
You can access the Grunt Work mission by accomplishing the Supra Et Ultra faction task within the Starfield universe. Once done, simply approach Commander Taula, and a dialogue prompt will materialize, initiating the Grunt Work mission.
How to complete Grunt Work in Starfield
Following your conversation with Commander Taula, proceed to the Starport for the retrieval of your Comms Array, and engage in a briefing session with Herath. These preparations are necessary before embarking on your spacecraft.
In the subsequent phase of your Grunt Work assignment, your objective entails a journey to Tau Cetti II, with the purpose of establishing communication with the settlers within Starfield. However, upon your planetfall, you’ll find no settlers awaiting your visit. Instead, you’ll encounter a desolate landscape scattered with lifeless bodies.
You can loot the corpses before you make your to the main building of the ruined facility using the quest marker on your HUD.
A scream will be heard from the next building while you continue investigating the facility until your comms picks up a signal.
Speak with Hadrian
As your comms device intercepts a signal, the quest marker will guide you to the solitary survivor known as Hadrian. He will provide you with details regarding the events at the Tau Cetti II settlement.
Hadrian’s account reveals that the settlement fell victim to a merciless Terrormorph that decimated its inhabitants. She will implore you to aid in the restoration of the Security System and to procure a sample of the Terrormorph after eliminating it.
Restore the Security Systems
The restoration of the security system is necessary for the Terrormorph to spawn. Make your way to the security outpost located in the middle of the facility. Your quest marker will guide you throughout the facility so that you don’t get lost.
Access the security terminal and you’ll get a code to tune the tracking system. Enter the next room and set the frequency to 183.5 on the Livestock Tracker where your security system will be back online.
Engage the Turrets (optional)
There will be three turrets that you can activate to assist you in killing the Terrormorph. They are, however, offline. So if you want to activate the Kill Lanes, you need to restore power to the turrets.
Follow your quest maker to the terminals and restore power. Once that is done, you have to just bait the Terrormorph near the turrets.
Collect the Terrormorph’s tissue sample
Opting to engage the Kill Lanes will make dispatching the Terrormorph a straightforward task within the Starfield. Should you opt not to activate them, it becomes crucial to locate an open area to evade the creature’s assaults.
Upon its demise, secure a tissue sample from the Terrormorph and deliver it to Hadrian. She will then request you to transport the Terrormorph’s tissue sample to one of her former colleagues for in-depth analysis. Additionally, she’ll provide you with her Genetag for identification by Commander Taula.
Return to Commander Taula
When all is said and done, return back to Commander Taula to finish the Grunt Work faction quest by reporting to him about what went down in Tau Cetti II.
Taula will appreciate you and a prompt will appear starting 2 new quests: Delivering Devils and Deep Cover in Starfield.
