There’s nothing more annoying for gamers who bought the latest version than to find out it doesn’t live up to acceptable standards. Even if their computer meets the recommended requirements. The source of these problems is often Denuvo, the controversial DRM software in the gaming industry. Some developers, such as Ubisoft, decide to implement Denuvo’s tamper-proof technology at the risk of players suffering from poor gameplay, while others do not and hope that sales will outpace piracy. Today we’re going to dive deep into Ubisoft’s 2023 offering, Assassin’s Creed: Mirage, to find out whether the game will work with Denuvo or not.
Will Assassin’s Creed: Mirage Denuvo?
Unfortunately, Assassin’s Creed: Mirage will have Denuvo. Not only that, it will also come with VMProtect DRM and will require Ubisoft Connect to be installed . This has been confirmed by PCGamingWiki and is consistent with Ubisoft’s past practice. If you’re wondering what VMProtect DRM is, it’s another DRM software that some games use in addition to existing copyright protection, and Ubisoft has built it into all of its games since 2014.
Ubisoft also maintains and implements its own DRM system into games using Ubisoft Connect, which must be launched before launching any Ubisoft game, even if the game was purchased from another store, such as the Epic Games Store. This triple whammy means that Assassin’s Creed: Mirage will likely not be hacked upon release. However, the important question is how the game will work for those who bought a legal copy and are dealing with Denuvo.
Why players hate Denuvo
Denuvo Anti-Tamper is known for its impact on game performance. It’s a digital rights management system touted as the best way to protect digital content from hacking so pirates can’t get it for free. It is also known to be the most difficult DRM software to crack. Denuvo was criticized for high CPU usage and excessive writes to storage components, as well as lower frame rates during gameplay. Although Denuvo denies these claims, several YouTube reviewers and even game directors themselves have stated that a game without Denuvo performs better than the same game with DRM software.
We’ll just have to wait and see how Mirage performs with so much DRM software, but in the meantime, you might want to check out our other Assassin’s Creed: Mirage articles.
